Tragic news: Womanian lost an iconic golden medal winner!

Womanian is in mourning, since the news spread that we lost a waterolympic athlete. Iva Luvian (24) died right after winning the golden medal for windsurfing at the waterolympics. The top sporter was taken to the hospital right after the competition because she had chest pain. Iva Luvian died a few hours later, due to a heart attack. She had just won her second golden medal.

Born in 1996, she entered the waterolympics at only 20 years old and immediately winning her first golden medal that year. This was a historic moment! Iva was the youngest waterolympic participant to win gold at the age of 20. And this year she just did the same!

Iva was tearing up knowing she had won her second golden medal. Sadly she didn’t have the chance to receive her golden medal. Her coach, Sofie Murmae, went to the award ceremony hoping that she could give the golden medal to Luvian in the hospital, but sadly she couldn’t make it in time.

“This is a tragic loss for the sports world. She was an role model for a lot of sporters.” – Sofia Murmae, coach of Iva Luvian.

Iva leaves her 2-year-old daughter behind, together with her family.

Our thoughts are with her family during these difficult times. Her family wishes to hold a intimate ceremony, but there will be a public memorial moment on Monday the 3rd of November.

The president of the waterolympics announced that there will be one minute of silence before each Olympic race to commemorate Iva Luvian.
